Our planet earth needs Jupiter for protection. The planet is one of the gas giants in our solar system.

But Jupiter has the most gravitational power than any other planet in this planetary system. For its vast gravity, comets or asteroids ignore the earth for collision. That’s how this giant planet is saving our planet.

The Great Red Spot on Jupiter is one of the most amazing phenomena in this solar system. Scientists have said that it has been a cyclone running for more than 300 years.

Jupiter is a super surprising object for scientists from very past history and today. There is not any accurate information about who first invented Jupiter.

History says, In 1610, legendary astronomer Galileo Galilei aimed his telescope at Jupiter and observed that the planet has four moons orbiting it.

The planet is one of the four gas giants in our solar system.

According to Roman mythology and religion, Jupiter is the name of the king of Gods. As it is the biggest planet in our solar system, Roman astronomers named it after the king of Gods.


Jupiter is one of the five-planet we can see directly from the earth with our naked eye. In the night sky, the brightest object is the biggest planet we have in our solar system.

The radius of the most giant planet in our solar system is 43440.4 miles or 69911 kilometers. More than 1300 earth together can develop the size of the giant planet.

Think, the earth is a small marble toy and the Jupiter is a basketball.

According to NASA, the average distance between Sun and Jupiter is almost 484 million miles or 778 million kilometers.

Our planet earth and Jupiter orbit the sun in the same egg-shaped way. When these two planets have reached the nearest point, the distance between them is around 365 million miles or 588 million kilometers.

Jupiter has so many big and small moons. But four of them are huge which are the main natural satellites orbiting the planet.

According to scientists from NASA, the planet has almost 79 moons. Among them, scientists have named 53 and the rest of 26 are waiting for official names.

The planet itself has a tiny solar system.

Surface & Atmosphere

Jupiter is fully made of gases and liquids, so it does not have a solid surface. The pressure and temperature of this planet would prevent any kind of spacecraft from landing on it.

The planet is so beautiful because of its vivid colors. But you could just melt in a second whenever you enter the atmosphere of the planet.

The colorful stripes on the planet are clouds that are made of ammonia crystals mostly. But under the clouds, the surface is containing helium and hydrogen gases.

Possibility of Life

Scientists believe that the in-build materials and elements of Jupiter are not creating a friendly environment for any kind of existence of life. So it is confirmed that the planet conducts no life.

The planet has an icy moon named Europa which is considered a potential place to find life. But the research is ongoing, we can not surely say that now.

This huge activity was formed almost 465 crore years ago.

Inside the giant planet, there is a storm running for more than 300 years. The storm is running with a huge space of almost 16350 kilometers. That means the storm can engulf the earth so easily.

In 1831, the great red spot was first discovered by astronomers.

After setting up the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists have observed the phenomena so deeply. The storm is oval-shaped and reddish. That’s why

In 2017, spacecraft Juno sent a close shot of the great red spot. The shot shows that the storm of the great red spot is becoming larger consistently.
