We can see huge media shoutouts on Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and other tech giants.

Mark Zuckerberg is not the kind of person we can see always-on the news or other social media. That’s why I’m calling him underrated in media.

At the age of 19, Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook with his three mates in 2004 when they were studying at Harvard University

Early Life of Mark Zuckerberg

On 14th May 1984, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born in New York in a mostly Jewish family. His father Edward Zuckerberg ran a home dental office and his mother Karen Zuckerberg was a psychiatrist at that time.

He was raised in New York with his three sisters. From Mark’s early age he was so attached to computers. He built a simple messaging system at the age of 12 which was named Zucknet. His whole family used it for their internal communication.

Mark was so innovative to build new games and learning different steps of programming. Which later led him to become one of the tech giants in the world.

Mark Zuckerberg was so much interested in computers and his family understood his passion from his childhood. So they hired a private computer tutor to teach him deeply.

He started his school at Ardsley High School in New York. Mark was a smart kid who was good at mathematics and physics.

Mark’s father Edward taught him basic programming. Then he wrote codes for several software and games at a very young age.

While he was in high school, he took a graduate course at Mercy College at the same time. Then he studied at Phillips Exeter Academy for his further education.

This talented teenage boy build software that was valued by companies like Microsoft. They also offered him to join as a teenage worker. But he didn’t agree to work as an employee.

In 2002, after completion of his course at Philip Exeter, Mark Zuckerberg started at Harvard University. But he was dropped out to give something revolutionary to the world.

Starting of Facebook

In 2004, when Mark Zuckerberg was in Harvard, he and three of his friends Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes, and Eduardo Saverin founded a platform called Facebook to connect the world from their university dorm room.

Facebook was founded to create profiles, upload images, and connect to the world. The platform hit 1 million users at the end of that year which inspired Zuckerberg.

The first domain name of Facebook was thefacebook.com and Mark purchased the original domain name facebook.com paying $200,000 in 2005. The purchase was the first major acquisition of Facebook.

As a consequence of measuring the huge success possibility, Mark Zuckerberg dropped out from Harvard University to run Facebook in a new location in Palo Alto, California.

There he received an investment of $12.7 million from a venture capital firm Accel Partners. That investment boosts Facebook with a huge thrust. It was the primary step of the growth. Now Facebook has come a long way.

Now Facebook has almost 3 billion monthly users and the number is increasing.

Mark is a person full of high thoughts. He can turn a company’s no-profit into huge profit by measuring the future market of those companies. Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook become the owner of almost 78 companies in the last 15 years.

After buying the original domain name of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg purchased FB.com with a huge amount of $8.5 million.

Instagram

On 9th April 2012, Facebook spent $1 billion to buy Instagram. At that time Instagram had around 80 million monthly users and only 13 employees with no profit.

Another social tech giant Twitter also wanted to buy the company. They offered $500 million for the acquisition. Former CEO and co-founder of Instagram Kevin Systrom denied the offer.

Mark Zuckerberg assumed Instagram could kill Facebook using habit for a large number of users. That photo-sharing platform was rising so fast to grab the attention. And it also had a huge business opportunity.

So Zuckerberg offered $1 billion for the company and who wouldn’t take it?

Now at present, Instagram has more than 1 billion monthly active visitors. In 2020, the platform has made almost $24 billion in revenue.

WhatsApp

Facebook has done so many high-amount acquisitions. WhatsApp is one of the highest-paid acquisitions in the history of the tech world.

The messaging platform could be a direct competitor of Facebook. Zuckerberg’s FB messenger was in a threat to lose value to WhatsApp.

The majority of people were using WhatsApp as their primary messaging app instead of using Facebook messenger. Mark Zuckerberg had tracked the data sharply. Then he decided to purchase the company thinking about its market value and business scopes.

In 2014, Mark Zuckerberg had planned to buy WhatsApp and he spent $19 billion to own the world’s largest messaging platform.

In the last of 2014, Mark Zuckerberg added Oculus VR to the fleet of Facebook empire for $2 billion.

Oculus VR is a revolutionary virtual reality technology company. They produce VR goggles, headsets, and research on developing the technology for gaming purposes.

But Facebook had a larger vision with this company. Zuckerberg thinks that in the future people will no longer be attached to just scrolling newsfeed. Future communication will be inside of a virtual world. So that they are researching VR technology.

Mark Zuckerberg’s mother-company name was Facebook, inc.

On 28th October 2021, Zuckerberg changed the business name to Meta Platforms, Inc.

It is because of the future virtual reality technology replacing the present technology. Mark Zuckerberg is creating his metaverse where people can spend time in a whole new world.

That means, suppose, in future, you need to attend a meeting. You can attend in via metaverse where you don’t need to go outside. You just wear a VR headset and your digital avatar would be on the meeting desk as you.

People who will use meta can touch or feel the objects inside the virtual world. It would be a revolutionary change.
