Reading books, in most scenarios, is really not a horrendous thing to do if it enriches our knowledge or amuses us by bringing us on an incredible journey.
However, there are really some dark and mysterious nightmarish cursed books from some notorious part of history that should never exist in the first place!
Many readers are afraid of these certain books because they carry such possible consequences like death!
The freakiest thing about coming into a bookshop these days may seem to be how deserted it is, with many people preferring to swipe away on their Ipad as the shelves of old and odd books rot away.
But that pales in comparison to the cursed books that have plagued humanity for generations.
While books are supposed to bring insight and wonder, there are a few books in the world that are cursed and will bring you years of horrible fortune and disaster with just one page-flip.
So let’s jump right into it and take a look at these real cursed books that no one should read…
The Grand Grimoire
The Grand Grimoire is one among the few Cursed Books Students of Occult Studies Should Never Read.
The Grand Grimoire is one of the most profound and lethal occult cursed books ever penned.
It was composed by a guy who was allegedly possessed by satan sometime in the 1600s.
As a result, it’s commonly referred to as “Satan’s Gospel.”
This book contains a number of terrible magic spells that can be used to call powerful demons and even resurrect the dead.
Of course, wielding these abilities comes with a cost.
Anyone who reads The Grand Grimoire is thought to be surrendering their soul to the devil.
As a result, the original manuscript is deemed extremely perilous and is kept hidden in the Vatican’s secret vaults.
Tomino’s Hell
Tomino’s Hell is one of the cursed books that could drive you to suicide.
Yomota Inuhiko’s poem Tomino’s Hell is a notoriously haunted poetry penned by him.
A book titled “The Heart Is Like a Rolling Stone” was first released in 1919.
The poem is about a young kid named Tomino who is filled with remorse and anguish after his sisters and father pass away.
The poem contains a lot of the author’s personal suffering and grief, which is thought to have materialized in the shape of a curse.
Anyone who reads Tomino’s Hell aloud will, according to folklore, suffer a horrible ending, most likely suicide.
Their soul will be cursed for all existence and will sink into the depths of Hell.
The Book of Soyga
The Book of Soyga is a demonology-themed Latin book that dates from the early sixteenth century.
The Book of Soyga is only believed to exist in two copies.
One was possessed by John Dee, a professor who spent his entire life decoding it.
Dee deduced that the book was full of sinister chants and practices.
He, on the other hand, struggled to understand the final 36 sections.
Dee, obsessed and frustrated, enlisted the assistance of the Archangel Uriel to assist him with the interpretation.
Uriel revealed through Dee’s medium that the book was created after Adam put an end to heaven and that it could only be read by Archangel Michael.
Nevertheless, if you’re planning on cracking the mystery on your own, proceed with caution.
Anyone who interprets the final 36 pages is said to be destined to die within two and a half years, according to folklore.
The Codex Gigas
This one is one of the oldest cursed books on this list.
The Codex Gigas is an anthology of cursed books.
The Codex Gigas, sometimes known as the “Devil’s Bible,” is a thick treatise that dates from the 12th century.
This book weighs 165 pounds and is filled with enough bad energy to make Stephen King cringe.
According to legend, the Codex Gigas was written by a monastic who had broken his spiritual pledges.
The monastic was sentenced to die behind a brick wall for his crimes.
The monk began writing down everything he knew about the human experience the night before he died.
He summoned Lucifer and begged him to finish it for him because he didn’t have time.
After that, the book was said to be completed by Satan himself.
It’s crammed with ominous rites and images, including nineteen-inch pictures of the devil and other demonic entities.
The Lesser Key of Solomon
The Solomon’s Lesser Key, also known as Clavicula Salomonis Regis, is a cursed occultism grimoire.
Its origins are unknown, although it is thought to be made up of manuscripts compiled in the late 1700s.
The cursed book includes sections on how to summon souls of the dead and devils, as well as how to command them to do your wish.
Curses and incantations play a significant role in the old book as well.
There are unusual themes covered, such as how to turn invisible and where to look for lost or stolen belongings.
There are also instructions for love potions and seduction liquors interspersed throughout the book.
This isn’t a book you want to get your hands on.
It’s said to be cursed, and anyone who retains a copy on their shelf will be doomed.
Strange incidents, including pages turning on their own and books aggressively yelling across the house, have been reported by those who have purchased it.
Owners of the book have also reported eerie whispering and shadowy entities.
Owning The Solomon’s Lesser Key is also said to bring devastating terrible luck.
It is stated that the only way to break the curse of the book is to read it then destroy the pages and dispose of the remains properly.
The Voynich Manuscript
The Voynich Manuscript, thought to have been written in the early 15th century, is renowned as the world’s most cryptic cursed book and the “Everest of historical code-breaking.”
The entire 240-page book is written in unintelligible language.
It also has a lot of fancy illustrations, but they don’t reveal anything about the mystery and remind me of something out of an ecstasy vision.
Georg Baresch, an alchemist, was the first known owner of the book.
Baresch had no idea what the book was about or how it ended there in his collection.
It was later possessed by a succession of kings and other powerful people.
Many people seem to believe that The Voynich Manuscript was brought to Earth by aliens and that decoding it will unleash a curse that will kill anyone who examines it.
Untitled Grimoires
In 2013, an internet book vendor fetched $13,865 for two mystery handwritten and circular pattern magic books.
The vendor cautioned non-believers who messed with those cursed books would bring a death curse upon themselves as the sale was being concluded.
A grimoire – or witch’s magic book – is said to have to be destroyed after the witch who composed it dies.
These grimoires were authored in the early 1960s by Persephone Adrastea Eirene, a Wiccan high priestess.
Eirene is supposed to have run her own coven and was well-known in her neighborhood as someone to avoid.
The two cursed books contain large collections of incantations, curses, charms, and enchantments, and are reworkings of her mother’s grimoire.
There’s knowledge on how to summon ghosts, devils, and other supernatural beings, as well as exorcisms if the rituals go wrong.
It’s unclear whether she’s still alive or not, yet the first pages of her books expressly warn the reader’s attention:
‘This book is banned to those who are not of the craft! If you go any farther, vengeance will extract a rapid and terrible punishment – and it will be swift and horrible. You will undoubtedly succumb to the craft’s grasp’.
The books’ buyer and location are still unknown. Very mystic and eerie!
Okay, let’s move on!
The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage
Abramelin gave his son one of the cursed books filled with legendary curses instead of toys or a new phone like most parents do.
That also helps.
This 15th-century novel has had a reputation for being cursed since it was translated into English in 1900.
There are a few hypotheses as to why, but the majority feel it has something to do with the mage’s notion that everyone has their unique special devil.
He gives directions for ceremonies and magical achievements to bring your devils under control throughout the cursed book.
Knowing how dangerous it is to speak with the spiritual realm, it’s no surprise that readers of this book have claimed terrible luck and paranormal trip by demons from anointed places.
The Great Omar
It’s also known as the world’s most cursed book.
It is also stated that the Titanic, commonly known as the “unsinkable ship,” sank in the Atlantic Ocean solely because of this book.
It was on board the Titanic when it sank, and together with the ship, it went missing in the Atlantic Ocean.
The original copy of the book has yet to be discovered, however, a second edition was constructed using original pictures and texts by a writer.
However, it was damaged during the World War II bombing of London. Following that, another author attempted to rewrite the book.
He completed the third copy after 40 years of hard effort and donated it to the British Library. And, until today, this book has remained unopened.
The Orphan’s Story
The Orphan’s Story is an epic story about a Spaniard pursuing fortune throughout the Spanish Crown.
Martin de León y Cárdenas, a priest who disobeyed his sacred pledge, wrote it between 1608 and 1615.
What’s surprising about this book is that it didn’t come out until 2018.
It came close to being published on several occasions, but each time the publishing fell through due to the deaths of people involved under questionable circumstances.
In 1965, a Peruvian professor named Belinda Palacios unearthed the document, which had been lost in the Hispanic Society of America’s archives.
Colleagues cautioned her about the curse that was rumored to linger in the pages of the ancient book when she started working on the script.
While she tried not to be put off by the odd deaths that surrounded the novel, she couldn’t help but be put off.
Car accidents and sudden and unexplained illnesses were to blame for the deaths.
This, of course, fueled rumors that the book would be published.
The book was definitely one of the cursed books, and it has taken almost 400 years for someone bold enough to complete the project.
The Necronomicon
The Necronomicon is a cursed and terrifying book that is supposed to have the power to bring the dead back to life.
It is described as being bound in human skin and has a title that roughly translates to ‘an image of the law of the dead.’
The Necronomicon was originally wholly fictive, appearing only in the works of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.
However, as the book’s popularity grew, real-life publishers were interested and decided to make hard copies, which came in a variety of forms, including an extravagantly frightening pop-up book.
This physical edition of The Necronomicon has numerous references to Lovecraft, as well as a prominent depiction of his mythical creature Cthulhu.
It’s become known as one of the world’s most haunted and unsettling printed works.
It’s even made an impact on modern media, with appearances in everything from the Evil Dead and Friday the 13th films to Archie comics’ Afterlife!
If you’re courageous enough, you can check out an entire copy of The Necronomicon at Miskatonic University in Massachusetts. Best of luck on that!
